Industry Trends

Reliance on the Internet     As organizations are migrating their applications to the Cloud they are creating a dependency on Internet access for email, file management and customer records.  For many a single Internet connection is no longer acceptable. Multiple connections delivered over different medias from more than one supplier assure reliable access to the Internet in support of the business operation.

Email, SMS and Collaboration tools are replacing voice communication   The modern office depends less on the telephone to support business activities.  With smartphones, email, text and chat employees may view the office telephone as unnecessary.  Voice communications is still strategic to the operation on many organizations, but it may no longer be critical to the operation.  Leaders should evaluate their current telecom services and consider whether these services are best aligned with the requirements of the modern office.

Increasing demand for more bandwidth     Social media and Internet traffic include more mixed media.  Many organizations rely on web conferencing services that include voice, video and business applications delivered via a web browser with file attachments and images instead of ascii text-based green screens.  This modern approach drives demand for more bandwidth. The cost per additional Mbps has a broad variance based on the types of service. Applications have different tolerances for packet loss and delay. Many organizations are blending different services to meet the application requirements and contain monthly costs.

Closer to Home in Central PA

Our smaller city centers separated by picturesque countryside and mountains challenge the delivery of these Internet and Carrier services. Many organizations only have one, perhaps two options for service providers. These restrictions should influence strategic decisions to migrate workloads, services into the Cloud. Morefield has called central Pennsylvania home for 75 years and we help our clients manage these decisions daily, relying on our tools and expertise to enable our clients to make smart technology decisions.
